Column

I do not think people understand the meaning of the holidays anymore. I have never read about such crazy and selfish people before. With sales being bigger and better this year for Black Friday, is seems people have gotten crazier too.
It stuns me that at a Wal-Mart not too far from where I live, a young boy, as old as I am, 20-years-old, is going as far as shooting someone and trying to steal items in order to get what he wanted. Also, a woman went as far as pepper spraying other shoppers over an Xbox video game! That is going way beyond what the holidays are supposed to be about, let alone Black Friday!
There is no need to be pushing and shoving to get things that you want. I think that many of the shoppers could shop online and that would prevent a lot of the madness that takes place. The deals online are just as good and you get to shop in the comfort of your home without the mess and lines.
The holidays should be about happy times and not about what you can buy for the cheapest deal. Black Friday is overrated.
